World Class Internships
2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Science and Ethics

The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Science and Ethics is designed to extend classroom learning by applying concepts in bonafide research projects that are mentored by School of Natural and Applied Science faculty.

“Basic scientific research, as well as applied research, is a significant expression of man’s dominion over creation.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2293).

As a component of Franciscan University of Steubenville’s mission to educate, evangelize and send forth joyful disciples empowered by the Holy Spirit that are a transforming Christian presence in the world, this program also provides weekly lectures focused on the intersection of science and faith. Current topics in scientific ethics are explored asking the question, what is the responsibility of the Catholic scientist?

Application Steps
  • Step 1:  Identify one or more faculty members with whom you are interested in conducting research. You can learn about faculty research projects here.

At Franciscan, research is not just reserved for a select few.  Nearly 70% of Franciscan undergraduate science and engineering students participate in mentored-research-an essential prerequisite for admission and success in graduate school, medical school and the scientific workforce.

With numerous on-campus faculty-led research projects and summer internships you will have a wealth of opportunities to choose from.  Our faculty are committed to helping you thoroughly understand concepts learned in the classroom through direct application in the laboratory.

With the goal of providing hands-on research opportunities for every science and engineering student, we look forward working with you to fulfill your vocational aspirations by providing necessary applied skill sets.
