As a part of FISH, I worked closely with my advisor, Dr. Doroski, in the rapidly expanding field of tissue engineering. It was rewarding work, because we’re studying something completely novel that has potentially groundbreaking applications in future adult stem cell treatments. Additionally, Dr. Doroski encouraged my research partner and I to take initiative in designing and executing our own experiments. Not only did I get to apply concepts I’d learned in class to the research itself, but I also developed new techniques, skills, knowledge, and a greater degree of independence and confidence that I couldn’t have gained any other way.
