Project: Correlation of metabolism to seizure-like activity (SLA) in mutant fruit flies
While working under Dr. Kuebler for three years, I learned about the discipline of scientific research and how it is conducted. Research requires meticulous attention to detail and demands dedication of the researcher. Each semester, I conducted tests and led my research group to do new experiments. I was responsible for the lab and all of the people who worked with me, and the experience further refined my organization and management skills. I was able to further develop my speaking skills by giving a discourse on my findings to an open forum, inclusive of the biology faculty. Overall, this experience trained me to think like a scientist. It helped me to critically analyze and question data while thinking logically. I discovered that research is absolutely vital for medicine, and in its true essence, it is the very epicenter of the medical field.
